“We Want You To Know How We Feel”
During the catastrophic Gulf oil spill, Community Stepping Stones was teaching community art to a group of middle school students. They wanted to express their opinions about the tragedy in a way that adults could hear, so they created an 8 foot x 8 foot piece of poignant public art illustrating their concerns.
Then they created a poster of the art mural and sent it with a letter about their environmental concerns to President Obama. A couple months later, the President responded with a personal letter written directly to the youth. He congratulated them on their activism and awareness, and pledged to join in their desire to see the Gulf protected into the future
